Do You Get Bad Breath from a High Fiber Diet?

With all of the different diets flying around, many people are getting confused when trying to understand what causes what. They wonder which diet causes them to lose bone mass, and which diet may make their bodily excretions smell funny. Some people, however, also wonder if it is possible to get bad breath from certain diets. For instance, can you get bad breath from a high fiber diet or some other type of diet?

Low Carb Diets

The first thing to know is that the ever-popular low carb diet can cause you to get bad breath. When you go on a low carb diet, you are bringing less carbohydrates and more protein into your body, which will change the homeostasis significantly. This means that you will be causing a big problem in your body and that everything will change. One of the first things to change will be the amount of saliva that your mouth produces. Saliva is extremely important in your mouth, as it not only helps to keep tartar off of your teeth, but helps to prevent a breeding ground for bacteria that can cause bad breath. When you have a dry mouth, your body gives bacteria a place to breed, making it possible for you to get bad breath much faster. These days, hundreds of people have discovered the terrible breath odor that accompanies low carb diets.

Lack of Vitamins

Any diet that prevents you from getting the right kind of vitamins in your body needs to be avoided at all costs. When you start losing vitamins from your body, you may have problems with your breath along with other problems in your body. For instance, a deficiency of vitamin B can cause you to have bad breath, as can a lack of Vitamin C. A zinc deficiency can be a serious problem, and may lead you to have not only a problem with your breath, but with other parts of your body as well.

A High Fiber Diet

A high fiber diet, unlike most other diets, doesn't cause you to have bad breath, but actually can help your bad breath situation. A high fiber diet that is filled with whole grains and with vegetables and fruits actually helps your body to digest food properly. The more proper your digestion is, the easier it is for your body to work the way it needs to, which includes producing saliva. You can also add foods such as yogurt, which will help to balance the bacteria in your body and will also help to improve digestion.

When you're trying to diet to lose weight, make sure that you keep an eye on your breath. If your breath starts to smell bad, you can safely assume that the diet you are following is bad for your digestion and should stop the diet immediately. If you're already suffering from a bad breath problem, adding fiber to your diet may help you to combat the breath problem.
