It is a problem that we all experience, and now that it is summer, we are forced to deal with it on an even more regular basis. Dry mouth is a bothersome and annoying condition that affects us all. It could be caused by our activities or even by our diet. Let’s take a look at some causes of dry mouth and see what can be done to alleviate this annoying problem.

The main causes for very dry mouth can usually be traced to the food we eat. We all know that the saltier the food we eat, the better the chances are that we will suffer from dry mouth but sometimes dry mouth can be caused by other types of food that we don’t think of as salty. It could be a food product that absorbs a great deal of moisture that we take in, or it could be that we aren’t drinking the right kind of liquid. Many people don’t realize that by drinking alcohol or sweet drinks like soda, our bodies can become more dried out. A hangover, which is almost always accompanied by a dry mouth, is caused by a lack of water in our bodies.

Proper hydration is absolutely key to preventing dry mouth. While it may be tempting to drink sports drinks or other such beverages, it is a much better idea to simply drink water if you have a dry mouth. If you are planning on being physically active outdoors than it is even more important that you hydrate properly or you will most likely suffer from prolonged dry mouth. By avoiding a salt-laden diet and properly hydrating during the summer months, chronic dry mouth will be a thing of the past for you and your whole family.
