Are Small Holes in My Tonsils Causing Bad Breath?

There is a condition that almost no one has heard of but doctors believe that it could be a chief cause of chronic bad breath. More and more people are being diagnosed with small holes around their tonsils that can collect small food particles and result in bad breath that all the tooth brushing, gum chewing and mints can't touch. The only way to get this condition diagnosed properly is to see your doctor and get an exam. Let's take a look at a few ways you might be able to detect if small holes in your tonsils might be causing bad breath.

As medical science has evolved and more powerful antibiotics have been created, fewer people are having their tonsils removed while they are children. What was once a routine operation is now done sparingly. When a child or an adult gets inflamed tonsils, they are often prescribed a strong antibiotic to take care of the infection instead of simply having surgery. This has helped to cut down on medical costs, but it has caused an unforeseen rise in the number of people who have chronic bad breath because of their tonsils. There are two kinds of bad breath that can be caused by your tonsils. The first is when they are infected and you need to seek the help of a medical professional right away for removal or for antibiotics. The second is when your tonsils simply have small perforations where food can collect. These holes can be caused by simple wear and tear, or they may simply have been like that from birth. If you find that you do have tonsils with small holes in them, it is wise to consult your doctor abo ut surgery since there is an increased chance that they may become infected. Sometimes it is better to opt for the surgery because tonsil infections can be quite painful and even dangerous if not caught in time.

Before you run to the doctor and ask them to look at your tonsils, make an extra effort at keeping your mouth clean. This way you can be sure what the source for your bad breath may be coming from. Many people don't brush their tongues or their teeth adequately enough to completely remove odor causing plaque and germs from their mouth. You need to make the effort to begin using an alcohol free antiseptic mouthwash for at least 30 seconds after you brush to kill off as many germs as you can. The reason for alcohol free is because alcohol has a drying effect which actually promotes bad breath. Try this technique for a week and if you find that you are still suffering from chronic bad breath, talk to your doctor about it and mention that you heard about a possible tonsil problem causing bad breath. One sign that might indicate that there are small holes in your tonsils is if you have had several tonsil infections over the last few years but never had them removed. This could give you a definite sign that it i s causing your bad breath. You might just decide to have that operation to solve your problem once and for all.
